LPG Safety

Safety first.

Providing gas to households and businesses across the Pacific requires unwavering safety. That’s why we place great importance on your safety as well as that of our employees and partners.

Our employees are fully committed to ensuring your safety and comfort.

Gas bottle safety.

The gas bottles provided to you by Samoa is always inspected and tested to ensure they are safe to use and free from damage. The cylinders are stamped with their last tested dates on their collar or neck. Do not refill out of date cylinders – return them to us and we will replace your gas bottle with one that is within test and safe to use.

Always store your gas bottle in an upright position. When you get home, ensure they aren’t stored indoors and that they are kept away from any ignition sources.

Detecting a gas leak.

If you smell a leak of gas, check the following:

  1. If any pilot lights on your appliances have gone out
  2. If any of the appliances have accidently been turned on
  3. If there are any leaks from the connections to your gas bottle fittings or appliance

Do not light any matches or lighters, and do not smoke.
Do not use any electrical appliances, switches, or phones.
Open up all the windows and doors to allow adequate ventilation for the gas to escape to the atmosphere.

Close all connections and switch off appliances if it is safe to do so.

Call your local Geogas Cook Islands support team for assistance. In life threatening situations, call your local emergency services.

What to look for in your appliances

If you observe the color of your gas flame and have a blue tipped flame, it means that you have good combustion and that gases such as carbon monoxide aren’t being generated.

However, if you see a yellow flame or there is a lot of soot or smoke, it is a sign that you are getting incomplete combustion and need to service your appliance.
